The Anglo Irish Bank Shareholder
Title: “The Anglo Irish Bank Shareholder (2010)
Mixed Media (oil and toxic bank shares) on canvas 75cm x 52cm **SOLD**
(35 limited edition signed giclee prints for sale at only eur19.71)
**All proceeds from sale of this oil painting go to St Vincent dePaul
A forlorn Anglo Irish Bank Shareholder slumped at the bar with his worthless pieces of paper spread before him. One by one he rips up his share certs in an act of rage and deep regret. With the Anglo ‘Arrow’ Bank logo on the torn certificate in his hand as well as the one remaining untorn share on the table pointing like a dagger towards him, he is gutted. He is oblivious to the pub interior design that reflects the toxic bank corporate colours and the large seeping crack in the wall behind him that reflects the financial disaster that has visited him. However, things will eventually get better and there are still good things in life to be enjoyed with what little money he has and he will soon come to realize the truth of those words once said by Flan O’Brien “When things go wrong and will not come right, Though you do the best you can, When life looks black as the hour of night - A pint of plain is your only man.”
